The Vitruvian Man Between Art and Science

Exhibition Venice 2010

Some of the most extraordinary drawings signed by the unique genius of Leonardo da Vinci, is kept from 1822 to the Gallerie dell'Accademia Nazionale di Venezia.7 years since his last exposure in public, you can not miss opportunity again to admire the famous and enigmatic design, now considered a true icon of Western culture.

Made around 1490 by Leonardo, it is best shown as couldn't have been better the concept of man in the center of the universe: the perfect proportions of the human body (based on studies in the second century BC by Vitruvius) are going to inscribe with mathematical rigor within perfect shapes, the circle and the square.

The result, on what seems a simple sheet of paper cm. 34.5 x 24.6 yellowed by time, is still surprising. The man symbol of cosmic pattern with a touch of silver or lead and then went over in pen and ink with touches of watercolor, maintains its magnetic and mysterious beauty, like all masterpieces of the great master Leonardo da Vinci. < br>
Who has the good fortune to spend a few days in romantic Venice does not benefit, because it is an exceptional event, since the design can not remain permanently exposed. Prolonged light might discolor the ink, and not by chance that the Vitruvian Man is placed in a shrine in microclimate controlled, soft light.

"The Vitruvian Man between art and science" is seen as already mentioned in the splendid context of the Academy Gallery until 10 January 2010.

Hours: Tuesday to Sunday 8.15-19.15, 8.15-14.00 Monday.
